Los Lunas Rockhounding

In researching a random adventure somewhat close to home I stumbled across a rock-hounding opportunity. About 16 miles from my house out towards the middle of nowhere light pieces of agate, jasper and petrified wood are all over the place and can be collected.

For me of course the adventure always is simply in getting there, and with random directions like "head south for approx. 10miles down a dirt road and look for the a turn off near the third water tank" I jumped at the opportunity to lose myself in the desert.
I did find a couple of mangy cows who stood as sentinels, but they were far from intimidating as they fled after I flexed my 4X4 muscle by pounding on my horn.
Sure enough, just as the directions I found on the internet suggested I found a great collection site in the hills and mounds near a washed up Arroyo. After about an hour or two just wandering around I called it a day but I did bring back a couple of great rocks and petrified wood for the kids.

Admittedly, I look forward to eating that ugly cow in a Green Chile Cheese Burger sometime soon! For the internet directions I used to find the my way on this adventure visit here.
