Chesterfield and Lava Hot Springs

May 22, 2009 -- Spent the weekend with my family in the Southeastern corner of Idaho.  First stop, swimming at Lava Hot Springs.  This little oasis in the heart of the the heart of the sage brush and scrub brush mountains has always been a favorite for the family. I finally conquered my fears and jumped off the highest olympic platform. It was a rush and the closest I've been to cliff jumping since Lake Powell almost 15 years ago.
After Lava we headed to Soda Springs for pizza and to watch the geyser. Then it was off the old ghost town of Chesterfield.
Long a Pioneer community Chesterfield was left to a few families and today the LDS church and a few ranchers keep up appearances. Those seeking a new live passed through Chesterfield as it was a stop along the Oregon trail.  There are still visible signs of that great migration and echoes in the wind of a history which is becoming a distant memory.
